Creative activities for kids for the period of 2017-2018

Children will participate in creative games to benefit from diverse experiences, build concepts, develop skills, scientific reasoning and mathematical thinking. The three groups (I, II, and III) correspond to the children’s ages and focus on different content. Participating in a group does not require participation in the previous level. Children qualifying for two groups based on their age will be placed in the first of the two groups if this has not already been completed.

    Maths and Science Games I

In the program, for the first time in Cyprus, a pioneering research program on Mathematics and Physical Sciences is being implemented : Dynamic and Creative Mathematical Activities with meaning for young children. Children have the opportunity to be engaged in playful and experimental processes, interacting with a variety of ideas, materials, games and other children of the same age, discovering the world of mathematics, developing mathematical and creative skills.

    Maths and Science Games II

In the program of Maths and Science Games II, children participate in creative games from the world of Science and Mathematics to gain rich experiences, construct concepts, develop skills, develop scientific reasoning and mathematical thinking. Indicatively, it includes:

    Mechanics for children
    Magnetism for children
    Mirrors and Snow Chimes
    Electric systems

    Maths and Science Games III

In the program of Maths and Science Games II, children participate in creative games from the world of Science and Mathematics to gain rich experiences, construct concepts, develop skills, develop scientific reasoning and mathematical thinking. Indicatively, it includes:

    Photography for children
    Einstein for children
    Square root and square numbers
    Astronomy for children

  • Robotics I, II & III

Children will participate in basic creative learning activities to instill fundamental robotic principles and develop computer-programming skills. We will use creative robotics games designed specifically for young children.

Children will build and programme robots using ENGINO resources. The three groups (I, II, and III) correspond to the children’s ages and focus on different content. Level III focuses on children developing independent programming skills. Children participating in level III until May 2018 will be able to join in the competition CYPRUS ROBOTEX CHALLENGE.

    Visual Art Through Play

The Experimental Game Art Workshop, or "Visual Play with Colorants", focuses on colors and involves children in creative processes so that they become the same colorants.Everybody can be a Colorist and gets to play with colors! The visual game incorporates movement, laughter, interaction and color itself as an integral part of the identity of young children.

Astronomy (Ι, ΙΙ) (5,5-9 years old)

Level I of the program of 3 sessions about Astronomy by Sight involves studying the planets of our solar system, the moon's motion and phases, and building a model of our solar system and moon phases. Level II includes the study of the Earth's second moon, planet X that was discovered about a year ago, and the global survey of exoplanets including the 7 announced by NASA in February 2017! We will also study man-made structures such as the Hubble Telescope, World Space Station and the Opportunity Vehicle on Mars.

    Paleontology

The program of 3 Palaeontology meetings aims at studying the real fossils of Cyprus, and introducing the principles and procedures of palaeontology research. It includes creative assembling of dinosaur bones, fossil comparison, and creation of our own fossil copies. The children who will participate will also build a chronological map of fossils from Cyprus and abroad.

    Geology (5-8 years old)

The 3 session Earth Science program aims to study the variety of rocks from different parts of Cyprus, the different types of soils and rocks on the island, and to build a personal geological map of Cyprus where children can be involved.

    Scratch Junior

The program aims at learning programming with the Scratch Junior software, made especially for 7-11 year olds with little or no previous experience. The program will develop programming skills. If your child has an ipad he can bring it to us to install the software we will use. The software is offered free of charge so that they can use it creatively during the summer holidays.
